Zojuist de nieuwste test gezien van Kai (digitalrevtv) tussen de d4 en de 1dx (ik weet het...hun testen niet lab-kundig, maar dat maakt voor ons, de test juist interesanter)

Maar Canon is weer helemaal terug, hij verslaat de 4d op alle fronten.... En geloof me, Kai is een echte Nikon fan (niet dat hij Canon haat...? ) maar hij nijgt toch altijd iets meer die kant op te leunen..!
Dus erg leuk interesant om te zien...

Firmware Version 1.0.6 for the EOS-1D X incorporates the following fixes:
1.Fixes a phenomenon in which the AF Microadjustment cannot be correctly carried out.
2.Fixes a phenomenon such that when using the camera with combinations of certain lenses (*1) and extenders (*2), the images captured become back-focused. (*1) EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM or EF200mm f/2L IS USM when used with (*2) Extender EF1.4x III or Extender EF2x III.
3.Fixes a phenomenon in which, when the camera is powered on in very dark environments (including instances when the lens cap or the body cap is attached), Error 80 appears on the camera.
4.Fixes the following phenomenon: if two CF cards are inserted into the camera and the ‘Standard’ or ‘Auto switch card’ setting is selected for the recording method for [Record func+card/folder sel.], and then one of the CF cards is removed and then reinserted into the card slot, the card selected for recording and playing back images may be switched to the other CF Card.
5.Fixes a phenomenon in which the AF microadjustment value is not correctly displayed in the EXIF information of the images captured.
6.Displays an ‘O’ or ‘X’ result to indicate whether images have been successfully transferred through the FTP protocol when using the WFT-E6 Wireless File Transmitter.

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 17, 2012 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced a new firmware update in response to user requests which further enhances the capabilities of Canon's flagship EOS-1D X Digital SLR camera. The EOS-1D X will now be capable of AF point illumination during AI Servo AF and cross-type AF for maximum apertures as small as f/8. The new firmware update is available now at no charge from the Canon U.S.A. website and can be downloaded by end users or through Canon Factory Service Centers.

AF Point Illumination During AI Servo AF
To support the needs of wedding, portrait, sports, wildlife, and theatrical performance photographers working in low light, the new firmware allows AF points in the EOS-1D X's viewfinder to be illuminated in red when the shutter button is pressed halfway during AI Servo AF, for easy viewing of the selected point. This valuable feature will enhance the photographers' ability to aim the camera accurately in low-light conditions, and when photographing dark subjects. To preserve exposure-metering accuracy, illumination is intermittent, not continuous. Three choices will be selectable from the menu system - Non-illuminated, Illuminated (Normal) and Illuminated (Brighter).

Cross-Type AF Support at f/8
The EOS-1D X is equipped with an innovative 61-point High Density Reticular AF System featuring up to 41 cross-type AF points, depending on the lens in use. The cross-type AF points recognize a wide variety of subject matter, making them highly desirable for maximum autofocus performance. Until now, cross-type AF on the EOS-1D X has been limited to EF lenses and lens/extender combinations with a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or larger. The new firmware allows cross-type autofocusing with the center AF point even when the maximum aperture of a Canon EF lens/extender combination becomes as small as f/8. Ideal for wildlife photographers and others who often use EF super-telephoto lenses with extenders, this new feature greatly expands the range of EF lens/extender combinations that support autofocus when used with the EOS-1D X.

If AF point expansion is selected with an f/8 maximum aperture lens/extender combination, the four AF points surrounding the center point will act as AF Assist points. This option effectively expands the size of the AF detection area to enhance autofocus performance with subjects that are small in the frame and difficult to track, such as small animals and birds in flight. AF points above and below the center will be sensitive to vertical contrast, while points to the left and right will be sensitive to horizontal contrast.

Amstelveen, 18 oktober 2012 – Canon maakt vandaag bekend dat een nieuwe firmware update voor de gerenommeerde EOS-1D X verkrijgbaar is. Met de firmware update biedt deze geavanceerde DSLR nieuwe functionaliteiten en verbeterde prestaties aan professionele fotografen. De firmware 1.1.1 is ontwikkeld op basis van feedback van fotografen over de hele wereld en verbetert de werking en prestaties van de AF-functie. De nieuwe firmware corrigeert kleine verschijnselen en afwijkingen om professionele fotografen in staat te stellen onder alle omstandigheden nog gemakkelijker schitterende opnamen te maken.

Nieuwe functionaliteit, verbeterde prestaties
Tijdens AI Servo AF fotografie bij weinig licht wordt de informatie in de zoeker nu verlicht, waarbij de AF-punten in rood knipperen. Dit maakt het mogelijk de punten tijdens het fotograferen eenvoudig te bevestigen, zonder dat invloed wordt uitgeoefend op het meten van de scène.

De firmware update stelt fotografen in staat extenders te gebruiken om de brandpuntsafstand van hun teleobjectieven te vergroten en zo actiemomenten dichtbij te halen, terwijl het gebruik van AF zorgt voor scherpe, heldere opnamen. Door te werken met een zoomobjectief uit de L-serie en een extender, kan het middelste AF-punt (een cross-type punt met vier ondersteunende punten) worden gebruikt voor autofocus bij een maximaal diafragma van f/8.

Kijk daar hebben we wat aan. Ik vond het best een gemis dat de AF punt niet oplichte vooral in donkere situaties.

Die AF bij F8 zat er wel in, ja. Fijn dat ze 't hebben doorgevoerd!

Dat is zeker een leuke toevoeging, helemaal omdat dit geen cropsensor meer is krijg je juist sneller de neiging om een converter uit de tas te pakken.
Nu Canon weet hoe ze dit moeten inschakelen, mogen het zet ook bij de 5d3 doen

Op de mk III ook, maar op beiden zit een heel ander gedeeltje in de weergave van af punten. Je kunt op de X ook een raster oproepen en daar licht volgens mij het verschil. Op de III licht echt alleen het afpunt op.
